It is with great pleasure we announce the 33rd Season of Opera New England of Cape Cod with two of the world’s best loved operas, Verdi’s, Rigoletto, on Sunday, October 25, 2009 and Puccini’s, Madama Butterfly on Friday, April 30, 2010. Rigoletto last graced our stage in April, 2001 and the outstanding production of Madama Butterfly was performed in May, 2004. It is with great anticipation that we await the new productions of these two wonderful operas coming live to our stage.
Our 32nd season ended with the fun-filled performance of Rossini’s, L’Italiana in Algeri leaving the theater filled with smiling faces. It is productions of this caliber that our patrons have come to expect and have never been disappointed.
As I stand on the stage with Michael Capasso before each performance and look out at the audience, I am filled with a feeling of gratification seeing so many familiar faces. To all of you who have supported Opera New England of Cape Cod over the many seasons I say a very warm “thank you”. It is your loyal patronage that gives the Board and me the energy to continue the work of bringing live opera from New York City to Cape Cod.
There is an excitement also to see the many students in the audience, their attendance made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation of Cape Cod's Arts and Humanities Outreach Fund. We are also thankful to our volunteer board as well as the core of faithful volunteers who usher, sell tickets and bake the cookies for the intermission.
Your continued support is what keeps ONECC going. The cost of the opera productions has increased during the last several seasons, but not the ticket prices. We keep them low to keep you coming. Therefore, we depend upon your support of the opera in other ways. Buy your tickets early, take advantage of the series prices, add a tax deductible contribution, and importantly, tell your friends about the operas you see and ask them to join you for the next performance. Your “good word” is Opera New England of Cape Cod's best advertising.
I look forward to seeing you and your friends at our two new productions of Rigoletto and Madama Butterfly at the CCCC's Tilden Arts Center on Cape Cod. Seek me out at intermission, say “hello”. I love to meet all of you who are so supportive of ONECC.
