Our favorite Jester returns to Cape Cod!
Verdi’s Rigoletto, court jester to the infamous Duke of Mantua, delights us with his joking, until the joke turns on him, leading to “la maledizione” a father’s curse.
The Duke’s philosophies on the women he’s charmed and seduced are expressed in the most glorious of Verdi’s arias, sure to leave us limp in our seats.
First time, An Evening Performance!
Puccini’s Madama Butterfly is the tragic story of a naïve geisha girl and her American sailor lover, who enter into a “marriage”, a convenience for him but taken seriously by her. She renounces her religion to the vigorous objections of her uncle and signs the marriage contract, announcing she is now “Madama Pinkerton”. Puccini punctuates her long wait for his return in the poignant aria “Un bel di”, some day he will return.
Both performances at the The Tilden Auditorium at the Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable.
